Of Monsters and Men - the conquered group
In 2009, Nanna Bryndis Hilmarsdottir founded a new musical project in place of her solo Songbird. The girl invited new artists to the team in order to achieve the perfect sound. The guys began to compose new songs and very often perform at concerts - took part in small festivals and appeared on the stages of local clubs.
For the first time, like Of Monsters and Men, artists performed in the 2010 Musiktilraunir competition. Participation in this musical event brought musicians success. Having won the competition, they received the right to perform at the Iceland Airwaves festival. Here they first performed the track Little Talks. The song was recorded by DJs from Seattle's KEXP radio station, who, after returning, aired it. The rotation of the single brought success - a few days after he was heard on the radio, he became a hit. That Of Monsters and Man became stars, the guys learned from a call that they received from the USA. By the summer of 2011, Little Talks became a hit in Iceland.
In 2011, the band signed a contract with Record Records, and after that the guys started work on their first album. The first record went on sale in the fall of 2011. Due to the overwhelming success, the artists signed an additional contract for the re-release of the album by Universal Music Group in other countries. After that, albums could already be bought in Australia, Europe and South America.
The popularity of Of Monsters and Man, whose songs became known around the world, provided them with an invitation to various musical events of the world: Newport Folk Festival, Tin the Park, Lollapalooza. After participating in major festivals, the artists went on concert tours to many European countries.
According to the critic, the artists create real musical magic on albums and stages. They constantly delight listeners with their new hits, because they want to be remembered not only with one song. The single Dirty Paws in 2013 became the soundtrack for the movie "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty."
The team starred in the film "Game of Thrones." The guys created musical accompaniment for the performance of the troupe of Izembaro. In season 6, they accompany during the performance "Bloody right hand" in Braavos.
After the release of their second album, Beneath The Skin, which sounded all over the world, Of Monsters and Men became the first band in Iceland to receive a billion streams in Spotify. In the summer of 2019, the new Fever Dream album was released, and in the fall the group went on a European tour in support of the new album. The guys worked on a new album in a different format. It contains the musical preferences of each member of the collective.
Musicians push the boundaries of familiar acoustic folk rock in Fever Dream compositions. The team moved away from their usual sound, making it better and more interesting.
